    The village and its age-old traces...
    In 710, Bishop Béraire wrote that he had founded a convent in Châlons, entrusted to an abbess. In 832, Emperor Louis the Pious confirmed this monastery, which seems to have disappeared around 860 during a Viking raid. The column drums in the public garden belong to the monastery.

    The old town is attractive. Three neighbourhoods with fine granite architecture intertwine along the main street. The church, with its singular history, has been restored to its former glory and boasts some fine furnishings.
